Best Practice and APAC guidelines recommend that registered nurses should only administer medication from blister packs containing one type of medication. Unit Dose 7 is designed specifically to meet this requirement. Now that trained carers can administer medication under supervision, Unit Dose 7 is an excellent option for them as well.
Having only one type of medication per column makes it simple to identify, cease or even withhold a medication. It allows RN’s to delegate the task of medication administration to trained carers whilst maintaining overall control and accountability.
Pharmacists like Unit Dose 7 as the process involves checking only one type of medication contained within each blister.
• Ceased Medication is easily identified by nursing staff and by applying a ceased label to the pack - wastage of medication is reduced
• “Do Not Crush” and other alerts can be printed onto the header card to ensure nursing staff have all the information they need at the time of administration
• The pill image and description allows nursing staff to confidently identify medication before administering
• Unit Dose 7 is a complete system which includes effective management of PRN, antibiotic, S8 medication and Warfarin medication
• Brand ordered, brand supplied and the generic name is clearly identifiable on the pack
An alternative to Unit Dose 7 Folders
Webstercard is the single use, cardboard, light weight version of Unit Dose 7. It incorporates all the features of Unit Dose 7 minus the coloured folders. Coloured bands printed on the Webstercard ID Label differentiate the dosage times. For pharmacy staff, not having folders means ‘de-carding’ and ‘re-carding’ (placing into and out of folders) the blisters each week is not necessary. The Webstercards are discarded and replaced each week. For pharmacy this will save a significant amount of time.
The Unit Dose 7 Webstercard comes pre-filled with small or medium concertina blisters. Empty cards are also available for those cases where a larger blister is required. All you need to do is use pre-cut foil to seal the packs and your existing software to print a Webstercard ID Label. They are lighter to transport too.
Unit Dose 7 Webstercard
